INTRODUCTION

The purpose of these rules is to provide the approval and rejection mechanisms for proposed trade names, as well as the requirements for the registration of a free zone company trade name at Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone Authority (RAKEZ).

1) GENERAL PROCEDURES

1.1 The trade name should end with the abbreviation “FZ-LLC”.
1.2 Combination of English and Arabic words/letters is not allowed.
1.3 Registration of trade name shall be rejected if the proposed name is the same or nearly resembles (no significant difference) with the existing name in register of companies at RAKEZ or in the UAE National Economic Register.

1) TERMS

Applicant should propose names as per the following restrictions:
2.1 The name cannot comprise any restricted names; for example, religious or political bodies or governmental organisation or authorities, etc.
2.2 Not to use a country, continent or city name that may mislead as a representation by a foreign government body. However, nationalities can be used in the company name; for example “European, African, Italian, etc.”
2.3 Not to use misleading names that can represent activities that are not allowed in RAKEZ; for example, sponsorship, bank, insurance, assurance, chamber, municipal, etc.
2.4 Not to use words that may look like the type of company that RAKEZ is not offering; for example, incorporated, Inc., corporation, corp., limited, Ltd., chartered, etc.
2.5 The name must not contain any of the diacritic symbols such as the full stop or comma or any similar symbols such as (. / , / $ / % / #) with the name.
2.6 The name must not contain a name of another person without securing the consent of that person or of his/her heirs.
2.7 The name must not contain names of families or tribes, unless this is related to the company owner(s).
2.8 The name must not contain the words (bin / abu / um), unless these are part of the personal name of the company owner(s).
2.9 The name should not contravene related legislation.

RAKEZ shall reject:

1. A name contains Allah Almighty’s names, names of any religion, denomination, royal families or names or logos of any local, Arab and international agencies, corporations and organisations.
2. A name that includes “United Arab Emirates”, “Ras Al Khaimah” or any abbreviation which could refer to a country or emirate.
3. Similar to a known company or brand or product.
4. Infringe or may breach the intellectual property rights of a third party.
5. Offending to the general public policy or in violation with the UAE culture or laws.
6. A misleading name in comparison to the activity.
